During a special event in San Francisco, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella outlined the company's vision for a "data platform" that will consist of products like Office, Azure and SQL Server.
Satya Nadella, in his new public statement, announced another part of Microsoft's future strategy, stating that "it's all about data.".
Microsoft's goal now is to play a leading role in the collection, storage, processing and presentation of data, taking advantage of a series of its products related to database development, data centers and the Office application suite.
Part of this new strategy will be SQL Server 2014, an application that, as Nadella said, was "born in the cloud" and will enable businesses to analyze data with particular accuracy and speed. The new structure of SQL is designed with the logic of in-memory data management in order to achieve better processing times.
Another product announced by the Microsoft chief is a limited beta version of Azure Intelligent Systems Service, a data analytics tool that will help businesses collect data from all kinds of sources, from sensors to servers.
The third component of Microsoft's strategy is the Analytics Platform System (APS), which will allow businesses to submit data search requests to any database format and regardless of the type of storage.
Finally, the importance of Power BI tools was highlighted, which will transform Office into a familiar user interface, but for data management. Through these tools, users of applications such as PowerPoint and Excel will be able to access local or cloud databases, set filters or perform searches.
