If you own a phone or tablet with Android 4.3 or 4.4, you may have noticed that the device's lock screen doesn't support rotation.
The lock screen is always in portrait mode, and this naturally presents problems. If you use a phone, you may not have noticed it because we usually hold phones vertically, but if you have a tablet, you will definitely have seen the bug. This particular behavior on tablets can be a problem as their owners use them in landscape mode most of the time. How can it be fixed? Easily.
If you have root access on your device, you can do the following tweak to enable lock screen rotation.
Open a file manager app on your Android device that supports root access to the file system. You can use the free Total Commander app for Android, or ES File Explorer.
Go to the folder:
/system
There you will find a file called build.prop. You will need to edit it, so open it with your preferred text editor. If you are using Total Commander, it has its own built-in text editor.
Add the following line to the build.prop file
lockscreen.rot_override=true
Tip: Before adding the above line, check if the same parameter exists in the build.prop file, but with a value set to false. If it does, then modify the existing line and make it: true
Now reboot your device. The lock screen will work with the gravity sensor immediately after reboot.
