It has just been announced that Twitter has filed lawsuits in various Turkish courts against the Turkish government 's decision to ban access to the website. The move comes on the same day that the Ankara Administrative Court ordered the ban to be suspended.
“For six days now, the Turkish government has been blocking access to the popular social network. During this time, we have been engaged in discussions with the Turkish authorities to inform them about the platform’s policy and how it works, trying to balance the situation,” the social network’s general counsel, Vijaya Gadde, told Hurriyet Daily, as reported by the social platform’s official blog.
The social network said on Wednesday it had filed lawsuits in various Turkish courts to “challenge the ban on access to Twitter, with Turkish journalists, legal experts, Turkish citizens and the international community as allies who are officially calling for the ban to be lifted.”
Meanwhile, as we reported in a previous publication , the Ankara Administrative Court issued a decision to suspend the ban imposed last week by the country's telecommunications authority (TIB), RT.
Once the TIB is notified by the court, the ban is expected to be lifted. The authority is giving 30 days to implement the decision or appeal to the Court of Appeal to challenge the court ruling, a source in the prime minister's office told Reuters.
The popular social network of activists (we have seen uprisings through the service before, see Syria and Egypt) has public opinion on its side. This in itself is a very big weapon against the measures of the Erdogan government, which feels the "chair" creaking.
