Excuse me, is your ATM still running Windows XP?

The end of Windows XP also brings with it ATMs that, as is well known, run on Microsoft's ancient operating system. Will banks change operating systems on ATMs?

The impending end of support for Windows XP by Microsoft Corp could also affect the security of transactions via ATMs, as in the United States and many other countries (including Greece) many cash‑withdrawal machines. Microsoft will support Windows 7 for 6 years. Hardware, software, drivers and personnel for Windows XP will start to become scarce, increasing the cost of maintaining systems on the 13‑year‑old version of Windows.
With the transition to Windows 7, Automated Teller Machines will gain touch handling capabilities – with the touch of more than one finger (touch and multitouch), the ability to switch screens by swiping a finger (swipe), entering commands with various gestures, and scrolling up-down through extensive reports, selecting objects, rotating, zoom-in and zoom-out and more. This means that the change will be visible on an Automated Teller Machine with Windows 7.
After the end of support for XP on April 8, ATMs become potentially vulnerable to exploits from security gaps that will be discovered, but patches will not be provided for them, with each bank assuming responsibility for the confidentiality of transactions.
If you want to be informed by the respective bank's customer service about the operating system their ATMs use, we wish you... good luck!
Usually, they will refer you to the branch responsible for the specific ATM you want to use. If we have any updates, we will let you know.
