According to a CNET publication, this technique (Dunkable) is equivalent to the one used in specially processed «hydrophobic» clothes.
An innovative nanotechnology coating technique, which makes the smartphones to which it is applied waterproof, was presented at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona by the company P2i.
According to a CNET report, the Dunkable technique is similar to that used in specially treated "hydrophobic" clothing. It is noted that P2i is the company behind Motorola's also waterproof Droid.
This particular technique has the advantage of being able to cover all parts of the mobile phone that have a problem with water – including the circuits inside it. Its main advantage is that it can be applied to existing, “conventional” mobile phones, without affecting their appearance.
However, as Natasha Hoskins, marketing manager for P2i, told TechHive, users will not be able to "order" such a coating for their mobile phones themselves, as the company is working directly with manufacturers to "integrate" this protective layer into devices during their manufacture. The first devices with the P2i coating are expected to be released in 2014.
