How many communication expenses does a catastrophic earthquake entail?

OTE, Forthnet, Cosmote, Vodafone and Wind, recognizing the importance of telephone communication for people living in Kefalonia and Ithaca after the successive strong earthquakes, rushed and continue to offer free communication and guarantee the availability of their networks.

WIND states that it stands by its subscribers in the earthquake-affected areas of Kefalonia and Ithaca, and offers free communication until the end of February. Specifically, WIND is covering the fixed fee for WIND mobile contract customers, individuals and businesses.
WIND fixed-line subscribers, individuals and businesses, also have a free monthly fixed fee.
In case they request a temporary interruption of their telephone connection until 31/3/2014, WIND will not charge the interruption fees for up to 6 months. Those WIND fixed-line customers who resided in buildings that were deemed unsuitable for use will not be charged fees for transferring the line to their new place of residence.

WIND F2G prepaid or Q card holders until 28/02/14 have 1500 minutes of free talk time

Regarding the use of the WIND network in the regions, the company states that its operation continues uninterrupted and its availability remains at a very high level. Despite the fact that the demand for mobile services has returned to normal levels after the peak (+450%) on the day of the earthquake, a technical team from WIND remains in Kefalonia, closely monitoring developments in the region. It is noted that a mobile base station has also been sent to Kefalonia, which is on standby and will operate additionally if necessary.

Earlier, according to data from the National Network Management Center of WIND, which monitors the operation of the mobile and fixed telephone network on a 24-hour nationwide basis, traffic in Kefalonia immediately after the earthquake of the 26th showed a peak of +450% in mobile calls and remained at high levels both on the 26th and on the 27th of January (+95% compared to a normal day).

Users of the Vodafone network

Vodafone also stands close to all its subscribers living in the earthquake-affected area of ​​Kefalonia and Ithaca and provides contract subscribers, individuals and professionals, with free 1500 minutes of talk time to all national fixed and mobile networks, 1,500 text messages to all national mobile networks and 1500 MB of Mobile Internet (valid for all contract subscribers, individuals and professionals, from 1/2/2014 and for the entire month of February, in addition to the built-in usage they have in their plan).
Vodafone prepaid subscribers have free 1500 minutes of talk time to all national fixed and mobile networks, 1500 text messages to all national mobile networks and 1500MB of mobile Internet (applies to all prepaid subscribers, from 1/2/2014 to 8/2/2014, an offer that was extended from 8 to 28 February onwards, in addition to any package or bonus they may have activated).
Furthermore, Vodafone is stopping the process of blocking outgoing or incoming calls to postpaid subscribers until 28/2/2014.

Forthnet network users/NOVA subscribers

Forthnet, for the convenience of the residents of Kefalonia who are experiencing these days, extends until February 28, 2014 all overdue bill payments, without any impact on the provision of services and without any additional charge for Forthnet or Nova subscribers. In addition, a technician's visit and mirror repair for those Nova subscribers whose mirror has been damaged. For more information, residents are referred to the Forthnet Argostoli Branch, located at 52 Vergoti Avenue (contact phone number 2671025271).

Users of the COSMOTE network

In order to facilitate its subscribers in the earthquake-affected areas of Kefalonia and Ithaca, COSMOTE is offering free voice calls to all national fixed and mobile networks from January 31st until February 28th, 2014 (1500 minutes daily in addition to the plan, to all residential and corporate postpaid, prepaid and mobile subscribers). It is also suspending blocking procedures until the end of February.

Users of the OTE network

In the same context, OTE is providing free fixed connection fees for fixed telephony, internet and OTE TV for the period from 26/1/2014 to 28/2/2014, for all Residential and Corporate customers with a residential address/headquarters in the Prefecture of Kefalonia.
to OTE customers who request a temporary interruption of their telephone connection until 31/3/2014 for the entire period that their connection will be temporarily interrupted (up to 6 months) and will not charge the fee for restoring the interruption of the connection until 30/09/2014.

Furthermore, it will not charge line transfer fees from buildings unsuitable for use to temporary accommodation areas, as well as subsequently from temporary to permanent accommodation until the end of 2014.
