Perhaps you too have experienced the three seconds of fear that begin from the moment iPhone slips out of your hands until you reach down to grab it. If nothing has happened to it, you are relieved to carefully place it on a stable surface, after making sure that it has not suffered any damage, caressing it like a 15-year-old in love.
If your beloved device has been irreparably damaged, you will know the feeling of the earth leaving under your feet.
If this happens to you, and you see your device screen looking like it came from the fighting in Syria, don't give up. The event may be tragic, but that doesn't mean you should write another tragedy following the path laid out by Aeschylus.

Before you start running for hammers and chainsaws, remember that it's very easy to cause irreparable damage to the device, and to yourself, from a cut to a heart attack, if you accidentally pull a cable that you shouldn't.
