We've heard of high-tech clothing, but we've never heard of printed clothing. But it looks like we'll be hearing about them more and more in the near future.
Why? Because Aaron Rowley and his team have developed a new design that was recently published in Alternative Apparel's Sustainability in Design & Technology.
The project in question involves a 3D printer that can print clothes. It's called Electroloom and, as its creators say, will be released by the end of the year.
Right now, there is already a prototype that can make a polymer fabric that looks a lot like silk.
It can create fabric from fibers that look like cotton, but as it turns out, for now the raw materials it uses are only synthetic. If of course you can't wear clothes made from synthetic materials, it's better to stay away. For you, traditional clothing factories will continue to exist. The launch of the printer in a different case (printing clothes from any material, organic and synthetic) could bring the end of the clothing industry, at least as we knew it until now.
