Device Freedom Prize awarded for untethered jailbreak of iOS 7

The Device Freedom Prizeis an effort to reward the first developer to write an open source jailbreak for iOS 7. The idea is now accepting donations. The initiative is likely to accelerate the release of an untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.

Is iOS7 jailbroken yet?

The judges of the future tools will be Chris Maury (who proposed the award and is an advocate of free accessibility), Cory Doctorow (editor of Boing Boing, author and DMCA activist), CEO of the well-known website iFixit Kyle Wiens and Biella Coleman (professor and author of the book Coding Freedom).

The organizers say the jailbreak should work on all iPhone (4S, 5, 5s, 5c) and support the latest version of iOS (7.0.4). The jailbreak should be untethered and not cause problems for “the average user.”

So far, donors have pledged around $10,000 and donations continue.
