BitTorrent Inc.is currently running an interesting and bold advertising campaign. Over the past week, billboards have been up in several major US cities, including San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. The messages they display are all “BitTorrent”! What do we mean?

The signs say: “Your data belongs to the NSA” or “Artists must play by the rules.”

No one was sure who was behind the ads, but today, via a post by TorrentFreak, we learned that BitTorrent is running the ad campaign.

The Internet should be regulated, Artists need to play by the rules, And your data should belong to the NSA.
“These statements are an attack on freedom. They are also, for the most part, a proven attitude of Internet culture,” BitTorrent says.
But the company argues, we have a choice in the matter and can take back control of the Internet.
“This is the generation that will decide whether the Internet is a tool to be controlled, or a platform for innovation and freedom. We have an incredible opportunity. We can shape the next human relationships. A free and open Internet is a force for change and creativity. The backbone of a society where citizens are the stakeholders, not data sets,” the company added.
