Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff[3] has publicly announced the creation of an online system that will be independent of the US and Britain (or the “American-centric internet”).

Not many understand that the immediate trigger for this decision (along with the cancellation of the Brazilian president’s summit with the US president) was the NSA spying revelations[4]. The reason why Rousseff made such a decision and is taking such a historic step is the alternative infrastructure for the internet: the BRICS cable that runs from Vladivostok, Russia to Sanzhou, China, Chennai, India, Cape Town, South Africa to Fortaleza, Brazil, is already under construction and is, in fact, in its final stages of implementation.

No kind of provocation and the attempts with the “Arab Springs” and the Color Revolutions, to destabilize the Middle East, Russia or Brazil can stop this process anymore. A huge part of the buried cable of the BRICS project is still not known to the general public.

President Dilma Rousseff has decided to implement a series of measures aimed at making Brazil's internet as independent and secure as possible, following revelations that the US National Security Agency is intercepting all communications, has hacked the network of state-owned oil company Petrobras and is spying on Brazilians who have entrusted their personal data to high-tech companies in the US, such as Facebook and Google.
