Tehran is not expected to "unblock" Facebook and Twitter

Although the Iranian president has stated that he is open to limiting internet censorship

There is no expected to be free access to social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, according to the Iranian Minister of Telecommunications.

Internet users may have been allowed to surf popular websites for just a few hours, but after the blockade, Tehran is once again putting an electronic brake on it.

As Telecommunications Minister Mahmoud Vaezi stated: "The ban on access to websites like Facebook and Twitter should not have been lifted.".

Although Iran's president, Hassan Rouhani, himself has stated that internet censorship should be limited, Tehran is proceeding with the banning of popular social networking sites, as well as YouTube, many other websites, as well as blogs and pornographic websites, as they are considered "immoral.".

However, as reported by Voice of Russia, Ayatollah Khamenei reportedly has a personal Facebook page, while even Rouhani has a Twitter profile, although his advisors claim that he does not manage it himself.

As for Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, he has profiles on both websites, and he makes sure to update them frequently, informing his 400,000 users with posts in English and Farsi.

On September 17, Iranians again had access to popular social networking sites, after the Ahmadinejad government banned them in 2009, but as the Iranian authorities explained, it was a "technical problem.".
