James Clapper, the director of national intelligence, released declassified NSA and said there was a “misunderstanding” with the FISA court ruling.
In his statement, Clappertries to convince all those who believe that the decision to release these documents came after the Electronic Frontier Foundation that the secret service gave them voluntarily.
“In June, President Obama directed that we declassify and release as much information as possible about certain sensitive intelligence collection programs under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA)to protect national security,” Clapper said in his statement.
Naturally, it then makes a reference to how the damage to national security is offset by the public interest.
Of course, there is no mention in his statements of the newspaper publications. There is no mention that the court ordered the declassification of these documents during the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
