Indicative instructions for starting a computer when it has been infected by the malicious software "Ransomware" as published by the Hellenic Police, which incidentally has done a very good job of protecting citizens who use the internet.

Here are two ways to start your computer when it has been infected by the malicious software “Ransomware”, or otherwise “100 euro virus”
. These instructions are not binding, as more advanced users can use other methods or tools to fix the problem. If neither of the two suggested methods succeed in restoring your computer, then it is recommended to get help from a specialized technician.
1st Method (System Restore):
1. Restart the computer (from the power button or by disconnecting it from the power (!) ).
2. During the restart, press the F8 button repeatedly until a black screen appears with “Advanced Options” or “Advanced Options” options depending on the installation language.
3. From the available options, select the one that says “Safe Mode with Command Prompt”.
4. Log in with your username and password (if you have set a password).
5. A black command window appears.
6. Type the following command depending on your operating system version:
Windows 8: “C:\windows\system32\rstrui.exe”
Windows XP: “C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe”
Windows 7/vista: “C:\windows\system32\rstrui.exe”
and press “enter”.
7. The system restore wizard (Restore System Files and Settings) appears.
The steps that follow are indicative and may vary depending on the operating system version.
8. In the wizard, select a restore point older than the date the computer was infected (if we are not sure, we prefer an earlier date when we are sure the system was not infected).
9. We start the process and after it is complete, we restart the computer if it has not restarted automatically.
10. The computer starts normally (optionally, the system can be checked with fully updated antivirus software).
11. In any case, and after saving all our files on a safe medium (external hard drive or other), it is recommended to reinstall the operating system.
