The iPad mini may be cannibalizing sales of the 9.7-inch iPad more than Apple expected. Anonymous sources have told Digitimes that Apple has drastically reduced orders for the 9.7-inch iPad from 60 million to 33 million units in 2013, due to the unexpected popularity of the iPad mini.
According to Digitimes' sources, Apple has reorganized iPad mini production and increased its forecast from 40 million units to 55 million for this year. However, Apple's alleged new estimates also show an overall decline in iPad demand, as it now appears to be planning to ship 88 million iPads and iPad minis this year, down from its original forecast of 100 million units.
