Microsoft has been working on a Surface all-in-one PC for some time now, and our sources tell us it could debut sometime this year, possibly in October, when other models may be getting some upgrades.
Now a new report from ZDNet suggests that Microsoft could unveil the new Surface AIO PC in the last week of October, as it is likely that the company will hold a large meeting with its partners during that time.
It is believed that the company could adopt a different strategy this year and instead of launching several new models of its own, it may introduce only the Surface PC and then announce devices from its partners. Last year, at Microsoft's hardware event, the Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and the second generation of the Microsoft Band were introduced
Additionally, it's worth noting that it's speculated that the event could take place this year in the last week of October, most likely on October 26th, and it seems Microsoft has already given this conference a codename: Project Rio.
And speaking of codenames, the Surface all-in-one PC is believed to be called the Surface Cardinal, but it's not yet clear whether Microsoft wants to keep that name after launch or not. Chances are, it won't and the device could simply be called the Surface PC.
In terms of features, the Surface PC will be one of the most powerful computers on the market and could be offered in three different configurations and screen sizes, namely 21, 24, and 27 inches. It will feature Perceptive Pixel screen technology, which Microsoft already uses on the Surface Hub.
The tech giant has yet to confirm the Surface PC rumors, but all signs point to the fact that such a device is indeed coming. So for a company looking to expand into the hardware business, this would be the next logical step, and Microsoft seems ready to do so.
