Sony has announced that it has completed the implementation of two-step verification (2SV) for the PlayStation Network (PSN).
Users who want to protect their PSN accounts with an extra layer of security can enable 2SV by simply going to: playstation.com/en-us/accountsecurity/2stepverification /. Once you enable this setting, you will need to enter a code that you will receive via SMS on your mobile phone every time you want to log in to your PSN accounts, regardless of the device. Most of the major technology companies now use 2SV, including: Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, LinkedIn and many more. Hijacking video games has become a favorite sport for hackers, who illegally trade them on hacking forums and elsewhere. In 2011, Sony suffered a massive data breach, exposing personally identifiable information from all 77 million user accounts that the PlayStation Network had at the time. Following the incident, Sony took its network down for 23 days and was later fined by the UK government. Sony blamed Anonymous for the incident, but several of the group's top representatives denied any involvement. To this day, the identity of the real perpetrator remains a mystery.
