Four members of the controversial YouTube channel, TrollStation, have been jailed on charges of carrying out… fake robberies and kidnappings.

The TrollStation team participated in a fake robbery at the National Gallery in London and a fake kidnapping at the Tate Britain in July 2015. Both acts were deemed criminal, even though they were carried out in the form of a prank.

The online channel TrollStation, which currently has more than 740,000 subscribers, has built a significant reputation thanks to the filming of similar pranks.

"The pranks may seem harmless to them, but they caused real anxiety, stress and worry to a number of people who should be able to go about their daily activities without fear."

"We hope that the conviction of those responsible will send a strong message in all directions. Illegal activities such as these will not be tolerated in London," said prosecutor Robert Short.

All four defendants pleaded guilty and accepted charges of using threatening, abusive or insulting words and conduct, with the intent to cause fear, promoting unlawful violence through their participation in the two pranks.

For the National Portrait Gallery prank, Daniel Jarvis, 27, was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, Ebenezer Mensah and Helder Gomes, 29 and 23, to 18 weeks in prison, and Endrit Ferizolli, 20, to 16 weeks in prison. All four were also sentenced to eight weeks in prison for the fake kidnapping at the Tate Britain gallery.

Additionally, Danh Van Le, another member of TrollStation, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison in March for his part in a fake robbery, as well as 24 weeks for a bomb hoax.

“Our goal was never to break the law,” said a member of Trollstation. “I hope our group will continue its work, but after re-evaluating its approach. We have a lot of influence and we will try to use it positively,” he added.
