EXCLUSIVE: Hacktivists Anonymous, with their latest online operation called #OpIcarus, targeted the banking sector in Europe and the U.S. The #OpIcarus operation had been carried out again in January 2016 and it seems that the hacktivists decided to restart the operation in March 2016, after a 2-month hiatus.

One of the first banks to be reportedly targeted in the last few hours with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) is the Bank of Greece.

The Bank of Greece were down for about 6 hours, according to foreign news agencies. The activist-hackers behind the distributed denial of service (DDoS) operationbelieve that banks, financial institutions and large companies are involved in corruption and collusion and have decided to turn against them as a sign of protest, starting a "cyber war" as they describe it.

In an EXCLUSIVE conversation that a well-known foreign news website with the hacktivists who targeted the Bank of Greece, they stated, among other things:

The Greek Central Bank will remain closed all day. We want all bank executives to know that if they do not hold themselves accountable for the crimes they have committed against humanity, we will strike a new bank every day, punishing them. #OpIcarus

A few hours ago on the Bank of Greece website, visitors saw the following image:

The hacktivists Anonymous also published a relevant video-announcement on Youtube that revealed the reasons for the powerful attacks and the list of banks they are targeting. The list includes banking and financial institutions in Brazil, Bangladesh, China, the USA, the UK, Pakistan, Iran and other countries. See more:

At this time, the website appears to be operating normally, suggesting that the attack has been mitigated or addressed by the authorities. The issue is particularly serious,  while it is NOT clear at this time who the new targets of the Anonymous hacktivists will be, as they state in the #OpIcarus operation's doctrine-declaration that they made public.

Stay tuned for anything new.
