602 Gbps!… The largest DDoS attack in history!

Cyber attacks are getting worse and worse, becoming a real nightmare for companies day by day, and the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is one of the favorite tools of hackers to temporarily take down their target that is connected to the internet.

To date, almost every major website has fallen victim to such an attack, with the most recent being the BBC website and the campaign website of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Of these two attacks, the largest DDoS attack in history was against the BBC website: over 600 Gbps.

A group calling itself New World Hacking is said to be responsible for both attacks. The group targeted all BBC sites, including the iPlayer on-demand service, and managed to bring them down for at least three hours on New Year's Day.

So far, the BBC has announced that this outage was due to "technical" errors, but later, after "New World Hacking" claimed responsibility for the DDoS attack against the BBC, it referred to it as a "test of its capabilities.".

BangStresser DDoS Attack Tool

One of the members of the New World Hacking group, who goes by the name Ownz, claims that the group used its own tool, called BangStresser, to carry out a DDoS attack of more than 602 Gbps against the BBC website.

As evidence, the group published a screenshot of the web interface that was theoretically used to attack the BBC website.

Although the authenticity of the screenshot has not yet been verified, if the size of the attack proves to be true, it will take first place as the largest DDoS attack of all time and surpass the first one which currently measures 334 Gbps, according to Arbor Networks records from last year.
