Google is changing the way ads appear in desktop search, removing them from the right side of results and leaving them only at the top and bottom of the page!

The change was first spotted by SEM Post and later confirmed by Google. Normally, Google ads appear across the entire page, but with this change, the sidebar is left empty and will only be used occasionally for sponsored product listings.
But while the ads on the right will disappear, a fourth ad will be added at the top for certain profitable searches, those for hotels and car insurance for example.

“We’ve been testing this layout for a long time so that some people can see it with a small number of commercial queries,” the company said in a statement to The Verge. “We’ll continue to make tweaks, but this is designed for high-commercial queries, where the layout is able to provide more relevant results for people searching and better performance for advertisers.”
Google also confirmed that the change is global and affects all languages.
