Sony and Samsung are teaming up to offer gamers a new gaming experience. From now on, players will be able to enjoy PlayStation games, console-less, with PlayStation Now, on Samsung Smart TVs.
Samsung smart TVs in the US and Canada will be able to access the PlayStation Now service in the first half of next year, as long as they have an Internet connection.
PlayStation Now lets you stream games from the internet straight to your TV, without needing a PlayStation console. You'll need a Sony Dualshock controller, but once you've connected it all you have to do is launch the app on your TV and choose from over 200 PS3 games to start playing straight away.
Games are streamed directly from the cloud, so there is no need to download anything. Gamers will be able to play games online against their friends, and save their progress in the cloud so they are ready for next time. We know that streaming can have lag, which is a problem in games, so the user should make sure their Internet connection is fast enough for smooth gameplay.
An exact date has not yet been announced for the new service, and neither company has yet responded to requests for more information about whether the service will be available outside the U.S. and Canada. In the meantime, those attending the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show will be able to see Samsung's PlayStation Now presentation up close, when the company first reveals the service on new Samsung Smart TVs.
