If you've ever paid a fortune in roaming charges, you know how expensive it can be to use a smartphone while travelling abroad. In the UK, however, there's now an alternative.
MasterCard is offering free Wi-Fi to travelers in the UK, as long as they are cardholders.
The credit card company is partnering with British Wi-Fi provider “The Cloud” to offer free internet access in public spaces across the country. The company has 22,000 hotspots in the UK.
To access the free connection, travelers can register via the MasterCard's Priceless Cities website, then download the mobile WiFi app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
The app also features a Wi-Fi hotspot finder so travelers can see the nearest hotspot while on the go.
Cloud Wi-Fi hotspots are in public places, such as shops, bars, restaurants and train stations .
According to a recent survey by Expedia, 94% of travelers bring a mobile device with them on vacation. There are over 3.6 billion unique mobile users worldwide, according to GSMA Intelligence.
