A 36-year-old Greek national was arrested yesterday (11-10-2013) in the afternoon by the Financial Police and Cybercrime Prosecution Service, involved in a case related to illegal betting, while a case was filed against him for violating the legislation concerning the "Regulation of OPAP issues and other provisions".

In particular, last week, OPAP SA filed a lawsuit against an unknown person who, through a specific high-cost telephone connection, transmitted, among other things, recorded messages for predictions of football match results, outside the legal framework. The messages in question were advertised on a specific website.

The digital online investigation, which was carried out within the framework of an order from the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, for a preliminary examination and in cooperation with telecommunications service providers, revealed that the 36-year-old is the administrator of the telephone connection and the website through which the messages in question were advertised.

A team of police officers yesterday afternoon went to the 36-year-old's home, with the assistance of a Judicial Officer, where they arrested him within the limits of the arrest warrant procedure.

The 36-year-old, who accepted that he was the administrator of the telephone connection in question, was taken to the competent Prosecution Authority.
