To Tinder users : Your luck will soon improve!
The company is making changes to its algorithm that it says will "significantly increase" the number of matches on the app. The changes introduced in the updated version of the app add new features related to the messaging service and features in profiles.
Like most dating apps, Tinder uses algorithms to determine which profiles users see when they browse the app. With the update, the company says they'll start looking at more data when looking for which profiles to show up. The result, Tinder, is that the number of people they'll match will improve and users will be more compatible with the people they see on the app.
"We're looking for more data signals, and with machine learning, we're getting smarter at optimizing those signals when we look for commonalities across individuals," Tinder CEO Sean Rad told Mashable in an email.
The company declined to comment on exactly what factors the new algorithm will take into account, but part of the change is the addition of information like jobs and education, which can now be entered into a Tinder from Facebook. For example, if you went to the same school as another user, you'll be able to see that information on their profile before moving on to the next one.
The update also redesigns the messaging section. While the messaging tab previously showed a list of all your matches, the new messaging screen separates conversations from new matches you haven't started a conversation with yet.
With Tinder 's latest update comes super likes, a feature that allows users to distinguish between profiles you like and those that make your heart skip a beat. The company said in a blog post that super likes will "increase the quality of matches and grow conversations between members."
