The race to be the best in productivity is reaching a new milestone. Microsoft has become a company obsessed with productivity , and even its competitors agree, so the Redmond-based giant is now setting a new long-term goal: bringing Windows to your phone.
Windows is described as the most productive operating system, whether it's a software or a service (users still call it software, while Microsoft already talks about the operating system as a service), so developing it on a mobile phone that can be easily carried around will be able to provide you with on-the-go productivity wherever you go, right? Right.
But with Continuum, Microsoft is going beyond that and allowing customers to turn a simple phone into a full-fledged computer that can run apps and let you work just like you would at your desk. The Continuum adapter comes with USB ports that will allow you to connect a mouse and keyboard, as well as display connectors for projectors, TVs, or other displays. The phone can also be used as a trackpad if you don't have a mouse. The definition of productivity!
This is what Microsoft calls “Windows in your pocket.”
Panos Panay, the man in charge of Microsoft's devices, said time and again at the company's event in New York that the new Lumia models "are the most productive phones you've ever had."
“If you haven’t thought about these phones, wake up and give them a minute. They have full Windows 10 support. It’s inside the phone. We have Office, Cortana, we have Skype, OneDrive. We want to put Windows in your pocket,” Panay explained.
CEO Satya Nadella had a similar message at the end of the conference, explaining that everything is designed to keep users productive, wherever they go (in fact, it's Microsoft's new vision since Nadella took over from Steve Ballmer and the company focused more on mobile).
“No one device will be the hub of activity forever. The hub is you. That means your content, your data, your settings, your apps need to be mobile with you. In emerging markets, where phones may be your first or only computing device, it will give you a phone and PC experience in a single device,” he said.
So there you have it, Windows is now almost everywhere, even in your pocket!
