The Snapdragon 820 will be the first to benefit from this type of charging

Qualcomm is preparing to unveil the Snapdragon 820 processors very soon, and in order to publicize the event, the US chip giant has been repeatedly showing off some of its highlights in recent weeks.

This week, the company had the opportunity to announce Quick Charge 3.0, a technology that will be offered with the Snapdragon 820. We expect to see the first mobile devices featuring this platform, released sometime around March 2016.

Qualcomm's Quick Charge 2.0 technology was also awesome, giving phones a 0% to 60% charge in under 30 minutes. But the chipmaker kept finding ways to improve it. And so Quick Charge 3.0 was born.

Quick Charge 3.0 takes charging to the next level

The company says we should expect to see spectacular results, as devices incorporating this technology are expected to be able to charge from 0% to 80% in just 35 minutes. Incredible, right?

In addition to the amazing charging speeds, it is the first time Qualcomm has used INOV technology (stands for Intelligent Negotiation for Optimal Voltage) for the fast charging process.

The system helps the device figure out how much voltage to use. It also provides a wide variety of voltage options. For comparison, Quick Charge 2.0 only allows for 5V, 9V, 10V, and 20V. With Quick Charge 3.0, the phone can choose 200mV increments, anything between 3.6V and 20V. It also supports USB Type-C.

Apart from the Snapdragon 820 mentioned above, other chipsets expected to feature Quick Charge 3.0 are the Snapdragon 620, 618, and 430. Which means we shouldn't expect to see the technology become available this year, but in 2016.

Quick Charge 2.0 was quite popular, with more than 20 OEMs supporting it. In addition, more than 90 different accessories that could support it were created for it. So Quick Charge 3.0 is expected to attract even more parties.

This all sounds pretty exciting and we can't wait to see the first devices with this system built in during the first months of 2016.
