Apple releases OS X 10.10.5 to fix bugs in its services

Apple just released OS X 10.10.5 on Thursday, and it 's likely the last major update for OS X Yosemite . It's now available via the Updates tab in the Mac App Store .Apple

The update includes a fix for a bug that gives an attacker unfettered administrator privileges, making it easier to stealthily infect Macs with rootkits and other types of malware.

Shortly after the vulnerability was made public, adware distributors began exploiting it so they could replace potentially unwanted applications without requiring end users to enter system passwords.

Apple 's list of fixes is not long, improving compatibility with some email servers, a problem with Go-Pro camera imports in the Photos app, and an issue that prevented Windows Media files from playing in Quick Time. The update also fixes a list of security issues in Apache, Bluetooth, CloudKit, OS Kernel, and a few other apps and services.

Sometime this fall, Apple is expected to replace Yosemite with OSX 10.11, also known as El Capitan. This update will bring some changes to Yosemite's visual overhaul, focusing more on improvements to window management, security, and performance, which will be available to all Yosemite-compatible hardware.
