WalkCar, a "car-in-a-bag"!

walk-carWalkCar-A laptop with wheels takes you everywhere!

It's the size of a laptop, looks like a skateboard or rollerblade, and can be carried around in a bag. But when you put it on the road and get on it, you can go anywhere you want without any hassle.

A 26-year-old Japanese engineer has built a portable personal transporter, which he describes as the world's first "car-in-a-bag."

How it works

The "vehicle" is called WalkCar and will soon be on the streets of Tokyo. It is the creation of Kuniyako Sato and his colleagues at Cocoa Motors.

The small vehicle is powered by a lithium battery that requires a three-hour recharge, is made of aluminum and weighs between two and three kilograms, depending on whether it is intended for indoor or outdoor use. It can lift a weight of up to 120 kilograms and moves at a speed of up to ten kilometers per hour over a distance of up to 12 kilometers.

As soon as someone gets on the "scooter", it starts automatically, while as soon as they get off, it also stops automatically. To turn, one simply shifts their center of gravity. Of course, there is no question of parking, since the parking lot is the owner's... bag itself!

Sato said anyone interested will be able to order their own WalkCar starting this fall through Kickstarter, a crowdfunding website that secures micro-funding for new ideas from a crowd of willing investors. The price is expected to be around $800, and the first sales will take place in spring 2016.
