ISIS hackers leak US military data

ISIS fanatical hackers have reportedly leaked the email addresses and passwords of 1,500 US military and CIA personnel online in plain text .isis-hack

The leak includes full names, email addresses, unencrypted passwords, zip codes, workplaces, as well as phone numbers.

ISIS 's "Islamic State Hacking Division" claimed responsibility for the alleged leak from Twitter, and their account was deleted soon after.

The files include details of alleged State Department employees, and personnel from the US Navy, Army, Air Force , and NASA. There is also a mix of staff from a US embassy, the Department of Energy, a few employees at the US Postal Service, patent office personnel, and many others.

But something isn’t right with the list leaked by ISIS. There are several entries for people with addresses outside the US – such as a judge from Israel (court.gov.il), someone from a college in Mississippi (millsaps.edu), someone from the Australian National Audit Office (anao.gov.au), and an employee from the UK Council (stockport.gov.uk).

It appears almost as if someone has collected email addresses with «gov» or «mil» from across the internet.

And the leaked passwords appear to be hilariously weak – like “david8.” Passwords that you would never expect a government agency to accept.

It is unclear where the information came from. It could have been obtained through phishing on private social media accounts.

«As you continue your attacks against the Islamic State with bombings against Muslims, you should know that we know and are in your e‑mail and your computer systems. We see and record every your move, we have your names and addresses, we are in your e‑mail and the social networking accounts you use.»

A Pentagon spokesperson told the Register that they are aware of the alleged leak.

«We cannot confirm its reliability at this time. The security of our service members is always our primary concern», added.
