The Cybercrime Directorate (DIE), through the innovative online process "Cyber Alert", in collaboration with the local Police Department, prevented another case of suicide. This is the case of a 33-year-old Greek national, who, through immediate and effective actions, was identified in time at the moment when she had consumed a large quantity of pills.
Specifically, the "Cyber Alert" Coordination Operational Center of the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) was informed during the night hours of yesterday (8-7-2015) by an Internet user that a person who owns and manages a profile on a social networking website has made an online posting that referred to an intention to commit suicide.
Immediately, police officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) conducted a thorough and in-depth police and digital investigation of the information and data of the user who made the controversial post, with the aim of promptly identifying him.
From the investigation, as well as from communication with the relevant internet providers, the 33-year-old Greek national was identified as a user of the social networking website and her geographical location was verified.
In direct cooperation with officers from the local Police Department and following information provided by the Cybercrime Investigation Unit (CID), searches were issued and the 33-year-old was located in her home, unconscious, having consumed a large amount of pills and alcohol.
He was immediately transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he is being treated.
The pre-investigation material collected will be submitted to the competent Prosecution Authority.
