Apple's iTunes app U , released in 2012, added lesson management tools for teachers in 2014. Teachers can use the updated version of the app to assign assignments to their students and plan comprehensive lesson plans.
This updated version of the iTunes U app was released on Thursday , adding a new feature that lets students turn in their work directly on their iPad or iPhone. When students complete their work, the teacher receives a notification.
As the current situation requires teachers and students to spend more time outside the classroom, and as students spend much of their time on their mobile phones, the updated version provides teachers with new tools to monitor the progress of their assigned work, while at the same time being able to continuously collaborate with students.
Students will now be able to do assignments using three applications. For example, they will be able to send a completed assignment via their device, even in PDF.
iTunes U is starting to compete with other free learning apps such as Moodle, Edmoto , and Blackboard.
It seems that American students will never let go of their mobile phones, even when they are reading or doing their homework, as Apple has sold about 11 million iPads and iPhones to schools in the US.
