Microsoft is permanently discontinuing the Skype Touch service on Windows , replacing it with a new desktop version .
Skype Touch is set to be shut down on July 7. After that date, users of the Skype Touch app on touch devices will be prompted to download and install the new desktop version, which will include all the new features. Contacts and chats will not be lost after this change, as they are not stored locally but in the cloud .
You will still be able to sign in with your Microsoft or Skype login.
With this new version, the two different applications, the one with the Tile Interface and the one in the PC menu, are merged into one. The application will be unified and will work harmoniously.
The desktop version will be designed for use with a keyboard and mouse but will also work perfectly in touch environments, such as on tablets and smartphones.
The new Skype will not be a universal app, according to the Verge, probably because the number of users with Windows 7 OS is still large.
