Caller ID – Caller ID from Facebook Messenger – Soon, if someone tries to contact you via Facebook Messenger for the first time, you will see a calling card that will display their photo, and other public information.
Facebook Messaging VP David Marcus calls the new feature "enhanced caller ID for messaging," and it will appear even if you're not friends with the person you're messaging.
It will show you useful clues that will help you remember who is trying to contact you, in case his/her name doesn't ring a bell.
The presentation card will display a larger photo as well as some information that the user has chosen to be publicly visible, such as where they went to school, where they live, your mutual friends, and other information that we will discover soon.
"Caller ID for messaging" works on iOS and Android devices, but currently only in the US, UK, India and France.
The company will soon start supporting more countries as it continues to improve the service in an attempt to compete with Skype.
