NSA's metadata collection is considered illegal
And yet there are some who do not support the NSA's actions. The US Supreme Court of Appeals surprised with a decision for the history of the internet.
The plaintiffs were organizations that support civil liberties, and the lawsuit was first filed in August 2014.
The court ruled today that the National Security Agency is illegal under federal law.
In particular, it appears from the text of the decision that the collection of metadata carried out by the service goes beyond what is permitted by section 215 of the PATRIOT Act.
Let us recall that the PATRIOT Act or surveillance law was passed after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The move could lead to a stronger legal basis for a reform of its methods, which first saw the light of day after the Edward Snowden leaks.
