Following the latest statements by Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, the social network with tweets has developed various tools to help its users deal with threatening messages, abusive messages and generally bad behavior that is intended to cause them problems. These tools concern new methods of reporting such behaviors, which means that these behaviors will continue to exist, but users will be able to deal with such messages more effectively.
On Monday, Twitter unveiled the first major filter for this purpose, to eliminate such content. The filter was confirmed to be working on Twitter for verified users of the network, as long as they enable it in the notification settings of the iOS app.
The filter includes a brief explanation of its function, stating that it “aims” to block messages that contain threats, offensive or abusive language, or content originating from suspicious accounts. However, what constitutes suspicious or offensive content is not specified.
The new filter on Twitter will replace the previous options users had for reporting such behavior. The social network has promised to soon release instructions on how the filter will work and whether it will be available to all users.
