Opinions are divided among tech experts regarding the security of the new identification feature that Yahoo.
Recently, Yahoo introduced a brand new feature for its users, aimed primarily at those who have difficulty remembering their passwords.
The tech company has unveiled a new password that allows users to log into their accounts using a temporary four-digit code sent to their mobile phone on demand. The service is enabled through the security settings of each account and allows users to log in with the click of a button ("send my password").
Security issues
And while users are excited about the idea of not having to remember a password – especially if they maintain multiple online accounts, with different passwords for each of them – security experts, however, are not so sure about how secure the whole process is.
Tim Erlin, CEO of security firm Tripwire, is among the experts who have expressed concern about the new identification system, saying that "Yahoo just made it easier for attackers to compromise an account.".
Through this new, and much easier, authentication process, hackers could gain access to users' accounts more easily and quickly, through the use of malicious software on their mobile phones.
Users, however, who have already tried the new feature, seem to be quite happy and, thanks to the ease provided by the new access system, seem not to be worried about the risks that this new method may pose.
