The new Secretary General of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, Dimitris Anagnostakis, fell victim to hacking, even before he was sworn in.
Specifically, after fraudsters managed to breach Mr. Anagnostakis' email password, they sent a message in which they wrote as Anagnostakis and informed the recipients that he was in the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, where he had been robbed. That is why they were asking for money.
However, the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, after being informed by acquaintances about the false e-mail, issued an announcement informing that he was in Athens, specifically in his office. At the same time, he also filed a complaint with the Cybercrime Prosecution Service, which undertook to investigate the fraud.

Dear friends and colleagues,
If you have received or will receive an e-mail purporting to be from my email account, stating that I have been the victim of theft during my trip to Nairobi, Kenya and requesting financial assistance, please ignore it.
This is an electronic message with deceptive content that seeks to deceive internet users and the Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Unit has already been informed about the case.
By taking this opportunity, you can also learn about other forms of online fraud that are frequently encountered on the Hellenic Police website, while the contact details for the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate for providing information or reporting illegal/reprehensible online actions are the telephone number 11188 and the e-mail ccu@cybercrimeunit.gov.gr.
