The popular file-sharing service Rapidshare is shutting down in a few days after 13 years of operation.
In 2002, long before torrent file sharing services, a pioneering service called RapidShare appeared that allowed Premium and non-Premium users to download various files from a website.
By 2009, the service was hosting mainly illegal files from 3 million users of the service, which had reached a total of 10 petabytes and, as expected, Rapidshare was among the 50 sites with the highest traffic worldwide.
Over the past 5 years, RapidShare, because it, like many similar services, had problems with the law, tried to maintain its profile as a cloud file hosting service, which apparently did not go down well with its users, resulting in the dismissal of 75% of its staff in early 2014, at the end of the service's free use package and ultimately its end in general.
Finally, according to an official announcement, Rapidshare will permanently cease operations on March 31st.
