Microsoft wants to invest in the startup Cyanogen , known for its CyanogenMod ROM for Android devices.
This follows from a report by the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft intends to invest up to $70 million in Cyanogen , with the two companies not having officially commented on the matter.
There may not be more information about Microsoft's potential investment in a sector that Google is trying to control, however, the news becomes interesting if we consider the recent statements of Cyanogen's CEO.
In more detail, Kirt McMaster stated that his company is trying to somehow remove Android, while admitting that there is a dependency on Google , because CaynogenMod was developed on Google's Android Open Source Project.
Android also increasingly favors the exclusive services that Google wants to promote, while he expressed dissatisfaction with the right to access user data from Google Now, without any particular reason.
Cyanogen wants to offer a version of Android that is “open” down to the core and where everyone can integrate services in a way that is not currently possible while Android is under Google's control.
Finally, he believes that Caynogen's dependence on Google will cease to exist within 3 to 5 years.
Will Microsoft play an important role in developments ?
