Whether it's an effort to evolve or because of competition in the social networking space, Twitter is constantly evolving with new features. Next up: group direct messages (DMs) and video tweets.
Twitter may be feeling the competition from Facebook and other social networks that can be used as a platform for instant messaging, which is why they are incorporating a private chat feature for groups .
These will be DMs that function as hangout convos, and it is not necessary for group members to be followers of each other. All that is required is acceptance of the group in question. When a user is added to a group, they will receive a notification shortly.
When the new version of Twitter hits the App Store and Google Play, users will be able to create videos on the spot, make quick edits, and post that video so that their followers can see it immediately. The service is live, but no one (except privileged account types like Neil Patrick Harris) can use it.
“We’ll be rolling out these features to all users in the coming days,” Twitter. “You’ll be able to join group conversations that other people have started with you, and watch any of the public videos that users post.”
