As of February 4, 2015, the possibility of redeeming the coupon to approximately 290,000 citizens who are beneficiaries of the social dividend of the 8 Regions covered by the "Digital Convergence" Operational Program (Eastern Macedonia Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, Western Greece, Ionian Islands, Peloponnese, North Aegean, Crete).
Citizens will be able to print the "Digital Solidarity" coupon from the site www.e-inclusion.gr and visit one of the approved stores and obtain:
- Subsidy of 12 Euros per month on broadband subscription (mobile or fixed),
- Tablet-type electronic computer or netbook-type laptop or
- Laptop (value up to 230 Euros), support services - training in the use of ICT at home, such as access to email, internet, e-gov services, etc
The action, with a budget of 100,000,000 Euros, was designed by the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts and is implemented by the Technical Chamber of Greece (T.E.E.) and the National Research & Technology Network (EDET S.A.) in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Posts within the framework of the Operational Program "Digital Convergence" co-financed by the European Union and the ERDF.
The registration of telecommunications providers in the action has already been completed, while the deadlines for registration of collaborating stores and submission of their offers are January 14th and 28th, respectively.
The aim of the intervention is to reduce the digital divide and provide equal opportunities to the most economically disadvantaged citizens to access the internet and utilize new technologies.
The “Digital Solidarity” action is another example of the implementation of the government’s policy to provide access to the internet to all Greeks. In the same context, the signing and start of implementation of the “RURAL BROADBAND” project, a PPP project with a budget of 161,077,032 million Euros for the installation of Broadband Infrastructure in Remote and Rural Areas, as well as the project for the provision of free Wi-Fi in all Municipalities of the Country with a budget of 18,414,619 million Euros as well as in University sites and hospitals, which is currently in the tendering process.
