Twitter and Foursquareare forming a partnership to build location information into tweets.
If the two social networks go ahead with the deal, Foursquarewill help provide location information for tweets, Business Insider reports. The partnership is set to launch next year, and the new “geo-based” features could be available as early as the first quarter.
Twitter already offers some location tracking capabilities. It can determine a user's location when they log in to the service, and can also share their location in their feed if they choose. Twitter doesn't provide very precise location information for users' tweets .
Foursquare has been in the location space since 2009—allowing users to “check in” to places they’re in and explore the city around them using the site’s app. In May, Foursquare changed tack and spun off its “check in” feature into a standalone app called Swam. The Foursquare app now focuses more on local search based on a person’s location and likes.
It is of course too early for such news, Twitter and Foursquare have even refused to comment on what is being written.
