The Pirate Bay is down – Other file-sharing websites are also down
Perhaps the most well-known of the magnet link websites for sharing torrent files, through which illegal downloading of content – such as movies and television series – is usually done, has been taken down.
Swedish police have raided a server in Stockholm, citing copyright violations, and computers and other equipment were reportedly seized as part of the operation.
The Pirate Bay website has been online since 2003. It has also been down for short periods of a few days in the past. In 2009, its founders were found guilty in Sweden of "facilitating the distribution of copyrighted content."
In recent years, Internet service providers (ISPs) in some countries have blocked direct access to The Pirate Bay, but they are not always able to control access through proxies and dozens of mirror sites.
In addition to The Pirate Bay, other similar file-sharing websites, such as EZTV, Zoink and Torrage, also appear to have been affected.
