Europol 's European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) is getting stronger as it announced on Thursday that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with McAfee , which is now part of Intel Security.
The purpose of the partnership is the combination of Intel Security's intelligence and experience with the law‑enforcement capabilities of EC3. This agreement has been designed to help combat cybercrime as well as to exchange best practices.
This collaboration is not the first for EC3, as the list of partners also includes companies such as Kaspersky and Mnemonic, as well as the Center for Cyber and Information Security (CCIS), which is a center for cybersecurity training and education in Norway.
Raj Samani, chief technology officer at Intel Security said that the level of crime in the digital world has increased and effective defense is beyond the capabilities of a single organization or company. Therefore, a partnership among many organizations involved in cybersecurity will lead to more effective actions against cybercriminals.
“Today we are adding Intel Security’s resources to our list of capabilities dedicated to protecting our digital lives. This task requires a broad approach. Intel Security has assisted the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) in the past and, with the signing of this Memorandum, our collaboration will continue for the benefit of all law-abiding Internet users and against cybercriminals,” said Troel Oerting, Head of EC3.
Intel Security offers security solutions based on hardware and its own intelligence on digital threats. The information from the security company identifies cybercriminals and EC3 proceeds with their arrest.
