Do you want to look more attractive on a video call? Or just different?
Earlier this year, a company called Looksery appeared on Kickstarter to raise funding for a new mobile video calling app that allows users to look more attractive with special effects that remove blemishes, change eye color, slim down the face, and more. The app, which is now available on the iTunes App Store, also lets you turn your face into an avatar for more fun.
While there are many tools that allow you to add avatars with your face when chatting on webcams on a computer, there are far fewer that work on mobile.
Of course, the Looksery app lets you have fun, as you can chat as a panda, a small lizard, a grumpy cat, a zombie, a monster, or even a flaming skull. (Kids might like this.) But for older users, the great convenience the app offers is the ability to chat through a perfect face, without blemishes or pimples, without bags under your eyes, and even with a different skin tone.
The company, which was founded in August 2013, is similar to other popular photo-editing apps that allow users to customize their appearance in photos, such as FaceTune and Perfect365. These apps provide tools to make your image look better through face-slimming techniques, new eye colors, makeup, and more. However, these apps are limited to photos, not real-time video chats
Looksery, meanwhile, has been working to build a system that works well, without lagging behind, using software it developed to optimize video files by understanding which parts of the face are moving and which are not. This allows Looksery to keep file sizes smaller and provide fast video communication.
