Microsoft has announced its first wearable gadget, the Microsoft Band, after releasing companion apps for it on both the Google Play Store and the Mac App Store. The gadget has been rumored for a long time, with Forbes reporting that it could be coming within weeks.
With the Microsoft Band, the company is aiming to enter a market where companies are competing to gain a larger audience of people interested in taking health measurements. Lenovo added such a gadget earlier this month, as well as the release of the Fitbit app.
Microsoft says the bracelet helps track heart rate, calories burned, and even steps taken. The app is available for Windows phones, iPhones , and Android phones .
Microsoft 's general marketing manager states that they want the Microsoft Band to work with all devices and all software available, and they want it to be able to connect to any devices users may have to monitor their health.
According to The New York Times, the Microsoft Band will cost around $199, which is much less than the Apple Watch, which we expect next month at a price of $349.
Starting Thursday, those who want it will be able to purchase it from the website as well as from Microsoft Stores.
