A US film studio confirmed that it plans to make a movie based on Tetris. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company that will take on the production of the film is Threshold Entertainment.
The company said that the film will not actually be a puzzle game, but a science-fiction story based on the well-known video game. The film's script is already ready and the production company is looking for a director who will bring it to the big screen.
Threshold had previously done a “game-to-film” movie in the 90s, with the production of a series of films based on the video game Mortal Kombat. TetrisAlexey Pajitnov may not have had the vision for a film franchise when he created the game in 1984, but it seems some people saw it differently. In the three decades since, Tetris has become perhaps the most popular gaming of all time. While we remain skeptical about whether a Tetris movie will become what we call a “classic film,” it can hardly be worse than Battleship or Super Mario Bros.
