A criminal case was filed by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate against eight individuals – three of whom are foreigners – for participation in a criminal organization, forgery and violation of intellectual property legislation.

The investigation into the case began after a complaint by a businessman, President, CEO and legal representative of an agricultural machinery manufacturing company in a region of Northern Greece, for “industrial espionage.” The company has representations in all major European countries, as well as in America and Asia.

According to the complaint, the eight individuals copied onto external hard drives, designs for components and spare parts, which are unique creations of the company.

They then deleted this information from the company's servers and made it available to competing companies for an unknown fee, causing significant financial damage to the plaintiff company.

In fact, one of the perpetrators had posted photos of the plaintiff company's machines on his personal Facebook page, claiming that they were his own constructions.

The above was brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office and a preliminary examination was ordered, within the framework of which an Order and Decree were issued to lift the confidentiality of communications.

Police searches were carried out at the homes of two individuals involved, where they found, on hard drives and laptops, a multitude of company files and plans, as well as files that demonstrate the collaboration of the two individuals involved with competing companies.

Also, within the framework of the investigation, it was found that the other two involved now reside abroad, where they have developed similar professional activity to the complaining company.

In total, one laptop computer and four external computer hard drives were found and seized, which were sent for laboratory examination.

The regular procedure file will be submitted to the competent First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
