Windows XP has been "retired" since April, but it is still a top choice for many users and companies around the world, even if it is quite clear that without upgrades and security patches, the risks increase every day.
Security firm Cyscon claims in a new report that at this point, Windows XP continues to be installed on about 8.4% of desktop computers worldwide, while Windows 7 is at the top with 55.1%. Windows 8 is far behind with just 15.8%.
While the figures are a bit different than what we've heard from other researchers, it's pretty clear that Windows XP still powers many of the desktops around the world, even as Microsoft highlights the security risks of keeping an unsupported system on your PC.
Statistics coming from Net Applications showed that Windows XP powers 25% of computers worldwide, which is even worse if they are actually accurate.
Windows XP stopped being supported with upgrades in April of this year, and Microsoft says that upgrading to a newer version of the operating system is the only option because there is no other solution that can help protect data if new vulnerabilities are found.
